Steve and his wife, Liza, moved to Kershaw County in 1980 when Steve came to work for Van Horn Insurance, prior to that he worked for Travelers Insurance. He has over 40 years insurance experience and enjoys being a hands on agent.
Steve took over as owner of Van Horn Insurance in August of 2005 and as President in 2018. When not meeting with clients, working late or hitting the roads to gather insurance information, Steve enjoys golfing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
James joined Van Horn in Jan 2013 after 9 years in the banking industry. He took over ownership of the agency in 2018. Prior to that, he worked in Mount Pleasant, SC for an insurance agency. James attended the University of South Carolina, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management and Marketing.
His past/present community activities include: Board Member United Way of Kershaw County, Board Member Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce, Camden Jaycees, Camden Rotary Club and the Co-Chairman for The Camden Cup Polo Match.
James is married to Marian Pouch and they reside in Greenville, SC.
Mendel is a lifelong resident of Kershaw County and has been an agent for 39 years. He enjoys working with customers and considers them as friends. He’s married and has two sons and loves to spend time with them. He also graduated from Camden High School in ‘73, Anderson in ’75 and USC in ’77.
In his free time, he likes to go hunting and fishing.
Carol moved to South Carolina in 2001 and came to Kennedy Insurance in July of 2001. She is Van Horn Insurance’s go to person for all things personal. Whether you own or rent your home, drive a car, truck or motorcycle, have vacation property or enjoy time on the water, Carol has the knowledge and experience to find just the right policy for you.
She enjoys spending time outdoors, being with family, and traveling to see her children and 12 grandchildren whenever possible.
Gayle Sheheen came to Van Horn Insurance in 2015 from the Kershaw County Humane Society where she spent many years helping Kershaw County’s homeless animals. Prior to her time at the Humane Society, she worked in the insurance industry in South Carolina and was licensed as an adjuster in 2005.
Since coming to Van Horn Insurance she has earned her property/casualty producer license and loves the challenge associated with finding just the right policy for each customer she works with.
Gayle also handles the bookkeeping for the agency.
She has an Associate Degree in Environmental Engineering from Central Carolina Tech.
When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her many pets & gardening.
